What is Medical laboratory Technology? Commonly abbreviated as MLT, it is a discipline of science that deals with the diagnosis, inhibition, and medication of illnesses along with analysis of body fluids to determine the state of the blood and tissues in the human body. From using laboratory equipment’s to perform clinical tests and collect information to diagnose treatments, there are various roles within the industry. However, MLT is the backbone of the medical industry as without the technology offered by medical laboratories, treatment and diagnosis would have been an extremely hard task. The scope of pursuing a bachelor’s in this programme The students who graduate are competent to work in the healthcare industry, often called as the Paramedical industry, to support and provide assistance to doctors and surgeons. Generally, the technicians conduct blood typing and tests of patients. The job opportunities offered in this sector depend on the academic and technical abilities of the candidate and the experience they possess. The eligibility criteria for the course Different colleges have their own set of eligibility criterions that an aspirant must fulfil to gain admission into the programme. However, one needs to have the minimum qualifying marks in their 10+2 level from any of the recognised boards in the country. Aspirants need to belong to the science stream with physics, chemistry and maths or biology as their main subjects in their junior college. Along with these basic requirements, a candidate needs to clear the different entrance examinations. An aspirant can choose either the degree course or the diploma course, the former is for a duration of three years while the latter for two years. The eligibility for both specialisations is the same across all medical colleges. The course structure opportunities that lie ahead The graduates get recruited by the leading pharmaceutical companies and hospitals with an annual salary starting upwards from five to seven lakhs per annum.
